A Rollercoaster Returns to Prague
The Largest Indoor Czech Amusement Park to Open at POP Airport
Prague, Dec. 8, 2021 – The first-ever Majaland amusement park in the Czech Republic is nearing completion close to Prague Airport. It plans to open on December 27 offering nearly 9,000m2 of the largest indoor amusement complex in the country. Karel Pražák’s Kaprain group thus continues to develop the POP Airport outlet and entertainment centre. Children and their parents can enjoy 12 rides including a rollercoaster, a theatre, and a toy shop, all in the spirit of Maya the Bee and her friend Willy, as well as Vic the Viking.
“The Czech Republic didn’t just lack a rollercoaster, but also a large amusement park like we see in most other European countries. We thus combined forces with Belgian-based Plopsa, which operates eight amusement parks in Europe, to bring a concept that entertains millions of satisfied visitors every year to Prague for children across the country,” Majaland Praha Project Director Otto Jerman said, adding: “The entire park, individual attractions, and the accompanying programs are thematically composed in the spirit of Maya the Bee, Willy, and Vic the Viking.”
The main attractions at the largest indoor amusement park in the Czech Republic will undoubtedly be the 12 modern rides. These include a 220-metre-long rollercoaster that can reach a top speed of 40 km/h with a capacity of 550 people per hour. There is also a 10-metre-high carousel, a 33-metre slide, massive swings, and a go-cart track. But that’s not all: “Majaland is a full-fledged amusement park. Besides attractions, it will offer theatres for children, toys, and restaurants. It’s a great place to celebrate a birthday, have a party, or enjoy a concert by children’s stars,” Otto Jerman explained.
Majaland’s grand opening at the POP Airport centre is planned for December 27, depending on the current pandemic situation. “We’re building POP Airport as a place that naturally combines shopping with entertainment. It’s a place for the entire family where everyone will find something for themselves. Besides the Majaland Praha amusement park, you can also visit the unique Dinosauria Museum Prague, a large collection of iconic automobiles at the Classic Cars Gallery, or just sit on our terrace and watch planes land at the airport. Shopping will also naturally offer outlet prices at 30%-80% off retail,” Kaprain Marketing Director Jakub Dlouhý said.
Plopsa operates eight amusement parks in Europe visited by more than 3 million people each year. In 2021, it opened the Ride to Happiness by Tomorrowland at the Plopsaland De Panne park, which has been called the best rollercoaster in Europe.
